Returns & Refunds Policy

Returns & Refunds Policy

Effective Date: 8 August 2026

At Chesco Auto, we want our customers to purchase with confidence. This Returns & Refunds Policy explains when products may be returned, how returns are processed, and how refunds or other remedies are handled.

This policy applies to purchases made through www.chescoauto.co.za, subject to applicable South African consumer protection laws.

Nothing in this policy is intended to remove or limit any rights that a consumer may have under applicable South African law.

1. Our Commitment

Chesco Auto aims to supply products that are:

  • Of acceptable quality

  • Suitable for their intended purpose

  • As described on our website

  • Free from defects

  • Properly packaged for delivery

If you receive a product that does not meet the applicable legal requirements, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can assess the matter and provide an appropriate remedy.

2. When Can a Product Be Returned?

A product may be eligible for return where:

  • The incorrect product was supplied by Chesco Auto

  • The product is defective

  • The product is damaged when received

  • The product does not correspond with its description

  • The product is not reasonably suitable for its intended purpose

  • A return is otherwise permitted under applicable consumer protection legislation

  • Chesco Auto has specifically approved a return

Certain products may be subject to additional conditions due to their nature.

3. Change-of-Mind Returns

Where permitted by applicable law, Chesco Auto may accept certain unused products returned because the customer has changed their mind.

For a change-of-mind return to be considered, the product should generally:

  • Be unused

  • Be in its original condition

  • Be in its original, undamaged packaging where applicable

  • Not have been fitted, installed, mounted, altered, or modified

  • Be accompanied by proof of purchase

Some products may not be eligible for change-of-mind returns due to their nature or where applicable law provides otherwise.

Customers should contact Chesco Auto before sending any change-of-mind return.

4. Products That Have Been Fitted or Installed

For safety and quality-control reasons, tyres, rims, batteries, accessories, and other vehicle components that have already been fitted, installed, mounted, modified, or used may be subject to additional assessment before a return, refund, replacement, or other remedy is approved.

This does not affect any rights a consumer may have in relation to defective products under applicable law.

If you believe a fitted or installed product is defective, stop using the product where reasonably possible and contact Chesco Auto.

5. Tyre Returns

Tyres are safety-critical products and must be handled carefully.

A tyre may not qualify for a change-of-mind return if it has been:

  • Mounted on a rim

  • Fitted to a vehicle

  • Driven on

  • Damaged

  • Altered

  • Improperly stored or handled

Where a tyre is believed to be defective, Chesco Auto may require an inspection by the manufacturer, supplier, or an appropriately qualified person before determining the appropriate remedy.

Customers should ensure that they order the correct tyre size, specification, load rating, and speed rating for their vehicle.

If you are uncertain about tyre compatibility, please contact Chesco Auto before placing your order.

6. Rims and Mags

Rims or mags may be eligible for return where they are unused and otherwise meet the applicable return requirements.

A return may not be accepted as a change-of-mind return where the rim has been:

  • Fitted to a vehicle

  • Mounted with a tyre

  • Used

  • Scratched or damaged

  • Modified

  • Altered or customised

Where a rim is believed to have a manufacturing defect, the product may be inspected before a remedy is determined.

7. Batteries

Automotive batteries may be subject to specific manufacturer warranty and return procedures.

If you believe a battery is defective, please contact Chesco Auto before attempting to repair, modify, or dispose of the battery.

A warranty or defect assessment may require information such as:

  • Proof of purchase

  • Vehicle details

  • Battery model

  • Installation information

  • Battery test results

  • Photographs

  • Manufacturer or supplier inspection

Warranty claims will be assessed in accordance with the applicable manufacturer’s warranty terms and South African consumer law.

8. Oils, Lubricants and Car Care Products

For health, safety, contamination, and product-integrity reasons, opened or used oils, lubricants, chemicals, and car-care products may not be eligible for change-of-mind returns.

Products that arrive damaged, defective, contaminated, incorrectly supplied, or otherwise do not meet applicable requirements should be reported to Chesco Auto as soon as possible.

9. Bakkie and 4×4 Accessories

Accessories may be eligible for return where they are unused and remain in their original condition.

Products that have already been installed, modified, drilled, cut, painted, wired, or otherwise altered may be subject to additional assessment.

Customers are encouraged to confirm vehicle compatibility before ordering.

10. Incorrect Product Supplied

If Chesco Auto sends you the wrong product, please contact us as soon as possible.

We may request:

  • Your order number

  • Photographs of the product

  • Photographs of the packaging

  • Product or barcode information

  • A description of the issue

Where the error is confirmed to be ours, Chesco Auto will arrange an appropriate remedy.

11. Damaged Products

If your order arrives visibly damaged, please notify us as soon as reasonably possible.

Where possible, take photographs of:

  • The outer packaging

  • Any visible damage

  • The product

  • Product labels

  • Shipping labels

Do not discard the packaging until the matter has been investigated, as it may be required for a courier or supplier claim.

12. Defective Products

If you believe a product is defective, contact Chesco Auto with details of the problem.

Depending on the product and circumstances, we may:

  • Request photographs or videos

  • Arrange an inspection

  • Refer the product to the manufacturer or supplier

  • Request a technical assessment

  • Arrange collection

  • Provide a repair, replacement, refund, or other appropriate remedy where required

The appropriate remedy will depend on the nature of the defect and the rights available to the consumer under applicable law.

13. Warranty Claims

Certain products may be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.

Warranty claims may be subject to the manufacturer’s specific terms and conditions.

A warranty claim may require inspection to determine whether the issue resulted from:

  • A manufacturing defect

  • Normal wear and tear

  • Incorrect installation

  • Incorrect use

  • Neglect

  • Accident or impact

  • Modification

  • Incorrect maintenance

  • Use outside the manufacturer’s specifications

Chesco Auto will assist with legitimate warranty claims where reasonably possible.

14. Items Excluded From Warranty or Return

A product may not qualify for a warranty claim or change-of-mind return where the problem resulted from misuse, negligence, improper installation, unauthorised modification, accidental damage, or normal wear and tear, subject always to applicable consumer rights.

Examples may include damage caused by:

  • Incorrect fitting

  • Incorrect tyre pressure

  • Overloading

  • Vehicle suspension or alignment problems

  • Road hazards

  • Collision or impact

  • Incorrect electrical installation

  • Incorrect oil or lubricant application

  • Failure to follow manufacturer instructions

  • Unauthorised modifications

15. How to Request a Return

Before sending any product back, please contact Chesco Auto.

Provide:

  • Full name

  • Order number

  • Product name

  • Date of purchase

  • Reason for the return

  • Photographs where applicable

  • Relevant vehicle information where applicable

Do not send products back without first receiving return instructions from Chesco Auto.

16. Return Approval

Once your return request has been received, Chesco Auto may assess the request and provide further instructions.

Approval of a return does not necessarily mean that a refund will automatically be issued.

The returned product may need to be inspected before a final decision is made.

17. Return Shipping

Where a return is required because:

  • Chesco Auto supplied the wrong product;

  • The product arrived damaged;

  • The product is defective; or

  • Another issue exists for which Chesco Auto is responsible,

we will determine the appropriate arrangements for returning the product.

For approved change-of-mind returns, the customer may be responsible for applicable return shipping costs, subject to applicable law and the circumstances of the return.

18. Refunds

Where a refund is approved, it will generally be processed using the original payment method where reasonably possible.

Refund processing times may depend on:

  • The payment method used

  • The payment provider

  • Banking processing times

  • Completion of the return assessment

Chesco Auto will communicate with the customer regarding the applicable refund process.

19. Refunds for EFT Payments

Where a refund relates to an order originally paid by EFT or bank transfer, Chesco Auto may request confirmation of the bank account into which the refund should be paid.

For security reasons, customers should never provide banking passwords, PINs, or online banking login details.

20. Partial Refunds

In certain circumstances, an appropriate remedy may involve a partial refund, replacement, repair, or other resolution rather than a full refund.

The applicable remedy will depend on the circumstances and applicable consumer protection requirements.

21. Promotions and Discounted Products

Products purchased as part of a promotion or special offer remain subject to applicable consumer rights.

Additional promotional terms may apply to discounted products, bundles, free gifts, or special offers.

Any applicable promotional conditions will be communicated at the time of purchase.

22. Proof of Purchase

Customers may be required to provide reasonable proof of purchase when requesting a return, refund, replacement, or warranty assessment.

Acceptable proof may include:

  • Order confirmation

  • Invoice

  • Receipt

  • Payment confirmation

  • Customer account order history

23. Special Orders and Sourced Products

Products specially sourced or ordered for a customer may be subject to specific return conditions.

Customers will be informed of any applicable conditions before the order is finalised where reasonably possible.

This does not affect any mandatory consumer rights that apply under South African law.

24. Consumer Rights

Chesco Auto respects the rights of consumers under applicable South African consumer protection legislation, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

Nothing in this policy is intended to waive, exclude, or restrict a consumer right that cannot legally be waived, excluded, or restricted.

25. Fraudulent or Abusive Returns

Chesco Auto reserves the right to investigate suspected fraudulent or abusive return activity.

This may include situations involving:

  • False defect claims

  • Deliberate product damage

  • Repeated misuse of return processes

  • Fraudulent proof of purchase

  • Product substitution

  • Unauthorised returns

Any action taken will be subject to applicable law.

26. Changes to This Policy

Chesco Auto may update this Returns & Refunds Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our products, suppliers, business processes, or applicable legislation.

The latest version will be published on this page.
